ABOUT START MOBILE
START MOBILE was founded in 2005 to bring NEW ART to the nascent mobile medium.
John Doffing, the founder of START MOBILE, was inspired by articles that he read about the booming mobile content market in Europe, where consumers were spending a small fortune on singing frog ringtones and recycled clip-art of bikini model + ferrari wallpapers to 'pimp their mobiles'.

After nearly a year of development, StartMobile.com launched in December 2005, and featured over 5,000 original works of mobile art, created by nearly 500 emerging + underground artists from around the world. The original START MOBILE website could only deliver mobile content directly to customers of four US-based carriers, so START MOBILE began licensing a premium catalog of 'art wallpapers' to mobile carriers, distributors, and aggregators globally.
In the process, START MOBILE created an unprecedented global distribution network for mobile art. As of June 2009, START MOBILE art wallpapers are available through mobile operators in hundreds of territories worldwide, including new distribution partners in India, China, Russia, Eastern Europe, South + Central America, and the Middle East.
START MOBILE believes that the potential for mobile art content globally is staggering and historically unprecedented. Over the past five years, START MOBILE has experimented with a number of cutting-edge mobile content distribution modalities. Some have worked out quite nicely, while others have failed beyond our wildest expectations.
Through it all, START MOBILE has remained committed to the technological realization of Andy Warhol's dictum that ART SHOULD BE FOR EVERYONE.
